Move over Greenery there’s a new color in town. At the end of last year, Pantone announced the Color of the Year for 2018 – Ultra Violet. You can expect to see this color and the full color spectrum of purple in stores.
“A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.” PANTONE
If this color is new to you but you’re intrigued enough to introduce it into your wardrobe this year, I have some tips on how to wear Ultra Violet below.
HOW TO WEAR ULTRA VIOLET
PAIR IT WITH NEUTRALS OR BRIGHTS
Ultra Violet is a striking and bold color that pairs well with neutrals. Add it to gray, off-white, white, navy, or black. If your personal style is more bold and daring, wear it with red, bright pink, magenta, cobalt blue, or lime green.
MONOCHROMATIC / VARYING SHADES
Instead of reaching for a LBD (little black dress), opt for a LUVD (little Ultra Violet dress) or a shade that compliments your coloring in the purple family. You can also vary the shades of your outfit. Here are a few colors to consider: Violet, Lavender, Lilac, Periwinkle, Pink Lavender, Mauve, Mulberry, and Grape.
PATTERNS
There is nothing like a good pattern. Whether Ultra Violet complements your coloring or not, you can always wear it in a pattern. As long as the other colors look great near your face, it’s an easy way to incorporate it into your look. You also have the option to wear it on your lower half or with an accessory.
ACCESSORIES
Accessories are an inexpensive way to incorporate and try a new color without making a big investment. Shoes, jewelry, sunglasses, scarves, and handbags are all great ways to add small amounts of Ultra Violet into your wardrobe.
BEAUTY ROUTINE
Ultra Violet makes a marvelous addition to any makeup look. Adding a pop of color on your eyes in a shade of purple that compliments your coloring is a fun way to energize your beauty routine. If you’re looking to add it in a more low-key way, try a pop of purple for your next mani or pedi session.
There will be more items showing up this year than next in this color. So purchase a few pieces! If it’s a color that is flattering on you, there’s no reason to hold back.
