Yes, you can wear white after Labor Day. This is one of the many fashion rules that is very outdated and is meant to be broken. The big thing to keep in mind is the fabric. It’s best to store your breezy cottons, eyelit, linen, and seersucker for next spring/summer. Reach for white wool, denim, cashmere, flannel, silk, leather, and thicker cottons. And, if white is not your best friend, wear off-white or ivory.
Here are some style tips on how to wear white after Labor Day:
MONOCHROMATIC – VARY THE TEXTURES
Wearing head-to-toe white is very chic. A great way to spice up an all over monochromatic look is to vary the textures. Chunky knits, ribbed sweaters, silk blouses, lace skirts or tops, are just a few options to add interest to your outfit. Just add your favorite silver or gold jewelry, and you are ready to go.
PAIR WITH CLASSIC & SOFT NEUTRALS
To off-set a white outfit, add shades of white, camel, and grey. Camel and tan will add a level of warmth to your outfit.
ADD A WHITE LAYER
As the temps continue to drop, a coat in a shade of white is a perfect addition. Just like black, it will go with anything.
THE LITTLE WHITE DRESS
If you have a little white dress in a non-summer fabric, you can easily wear it year round by adding a cardigan, tights, and boots. Instead of reaching for your little black dress, change it up and wear a little white dress. I love the details on the dress on the left, paired with a fun earring and a great clutch.
WHITE JEANS
White jeans are a must-have wardrobe item. They can be worn so many different ways and more importantly, year round. Just swap out your sandals and summer tops, and add boots and a sweater. You also can add layers on top with a button down and a cardigan.
